How to Start a Gas Powered Chainsaw Step by step Guide
Read the Manual Carefully:
Whenever you buy a product, the first rule you need to follow is to read the instruction manual step-by-step. Even if you think that you have used the Chainsaw earlier but still you need to read the user manual because this product might be different from the Chainsaw you have operated earlier so don’t skip this step.
Keep in mind the safety first
Everyone should know that the power tools could be extremely dangerous whenever we use them without any experience or safety precautions. Before starting or operating the chainsaw, you have to complete all the safety measures that include wearing eye goggles, protective footwear, gloves, and all other safety items that help you to do the work with a free mind.
Set the chain Brake and close the choke carefully
Now in the next step, you have to engage the chain brake because chain brake is an essential safety feature that needs to be followed. The purpose of the chain brake is to prevent the chain from rotating as soon as the engine starts. Closing the choke means that you need to block the airflow so that the engine can start more easily.

Now hold the top handle firmly and pull the cord slow till you feel some resistance. Pull the cord three to four times till the chainsaw is properly started. Many times it happens that your chainsaw engine fires but it doesn’t properly start so in that case you have to push the choke to half choke position and pull the cord again until you hear a coughing sound from the engine. Once the tool is properly started the squeeze the throttle safely.
Doing the Warm start:
You must have heard the word cold start or warm start. The above procedure explains a cold start set up where the chainsaw is cold. A warm start means that you have used the saw recently and it is still warm so you have to repeat the steps given above for a warm start.
How to Start an Electric Powered Chainsaw
As we told you earlier that you need to check the fuel oil and spark plug position in a gas-powered chainsaw. Similarly, you need to do some maintenance tasks before starting an electric powered chainsaw.
- Make sure that the batteries are charged fully. (Don’t forget to have a backup battery in case of the cordless chainsaw.)
- In the case of a corded chainsaw, make sure that you have a good quality extension cord so that you can do your work easily.
